Seasons

Seasons by Kate Ifarajimi

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens."
— Ecclesiastes 3:1

Whether we like it or not, life unfolds in seasons.

Some are loud, full of motion, doors flying open, dreams unfolding faster than you can keep up with. Others are slow, marked by silence, questions, transitions, or what feels like divine delay. But all of them, every single one, has a purpose.

There are seasons where everything flows, where you’re in sync with purpose, clarity, and joy. And then there are seasons that feel like standing in the middle of a hallway with all the doors shut, wondering if God still remembers your name.

And the truth is that all seasons are sacred.

Life is not a straight climb upwards; it is a rhythm. And if you look closely, you will realise that your soul moves to it too. There are seasons to sow, seasons to reap. Seasons to speak, and seasons to stay quiet. Seasons to stay hidden, and seasons to show up.

Ecclesiastes 3 gives it to us plainly:
A time to plant and a time to uproot,
A time to weep and a time to laugh,
A time to search and a time to give up,
A time to be silent and a time to speak.

And maybe the hardest part is this: you don’t get to choose the timing. You don’t get to fast-forward through winter or extend the summer. But what you can do is learn how to live well in the season you are in. To stop fighting the stretch. To stop pretending you are okay when you are not. And to start asking better questions:
“What is this season here to teach me?”
“What is growing in me right now?”
        “Who am I becoming?”
You may not have control over the timing, but you can choose your response. And trust me, the right response in the wrong-looking season changes everything. So maybe you’re in:
  • A waiting season, where you are doing the work but seeing no results.
  • A transition season, where the old has ended but the new hasn’t begun.
  • A breaking season, where you are letting go of what once defined you.
  • blooming season, where everything is finally coming together.
  • Or you don't even have a name for this season.
Whatever your season looks like, be present. Be honest. Be planted, because no season is wasted when your roots are in God. And when you look back, you will see that He was writing something beautiful through it all.

And if you are in a space where words just don’t feel like enough, I want you to take a moment to listen to “Seasons” by Hillsong Worship. The song is a reminder that even when nothing seems to be moving, something is always growing beneath the surface. Like the lyrics say: “I can see the promise / I can see the future / You are the God of seasons / And I’m just in the winter.”

Here is a link to the song. Please take a moment and let it minister to you. And when you are done, I want to leave you with this gentle nudge: What season are you in? Can you name it, and what is it teaching you?
