Here is not Home

I recently had a very bad fall that landed me in the hospital. After attending to me, the doctor said I had to do an MRI. When I got to the room, and I was just before the machine, the whole place gave me a strange feeling. It reminded me of what judgment day might be like.

There I was, alone with the machine, lying down, unable to move, just me and silence. And I thought about standing before God like that. Alone. No explanations. No excuses. No familiar faces. Just you and the Creator.

The Bible says,

“For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or bad.”

2 Corinthians 5:10

On that day, whatever society says will not matter. Your friends will not be there to defend you. Your family will not be able to speak for you. Titles, achievements, popularity, all of it becomes irrelevant.

“Each of us will give an account of himself to God.”

Romans 14:12

I also thought about something very simple. In Nigeria, we have a transportation business called Shuttlers. If you book a seat with them and you are not at your pickup station at the time you had scheduled to be picked up, the bus will leave you behind. Now think about the second coming of Jesus.

The Bible says,

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God.”

1 Thessalonians 4:16

There will be no delays. No second chances. No time to run back and fix things.

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”

Matthew 25:13

When the trumpet sounds and you are not ready, you will not be able to negotiate your way in. You cannot borrow faith. You cannot borrow obedience. You cannot borrow intimacy with God.

That is why this life is not home.

“For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.”

Hebrews 13:14

We are meant to live with eternity in view. Yet many of us are too settled here. Too comfortable. Too distracted. Too busy building a life we are not taking with us.

Jesus said,

“What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and lose his soul?”

Mark 8:36

This is a call to return. To realign. To get serious again.

To let go of habits, characters, and compromises that are slowly numbing our spiritual sensitivity.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

Galatians 5:22–23

Anything in me or you that does not reflect this needs to be confronted, not defended.

It is also a call to evangelism. Not just posting scriptures, but caring about souls. Talking to people. Living in a way that points others to Christ.

“He told them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.’”

Mark 16:15

It is a reality that...

“It is appointed unto man once to die, and after this, judgment.”

Hebrews 9:27

Jesus is coming back. Not as a baby. Not as a teacher. But as King.

“Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him.”

Revelation 1:7

The question is not if.

The question is when.

And more importantly, are we ready?
